well i was wrong about one thing thursday night - there was more like sixty of us!
We all ate too much and i caught up with a few people, and didn't catch up with some people I would have liked to - but hey. I gave out about 4 hat patterns though, and showed them a couple of the hats I have done - hopefully it will inspire more people to get their needles clicking! One lady said that her friend was desperate to knit, but didn't have anything to knit for (very elderly I would imagine).

We then watched a video from a man who had been out on one of the distribution trips. That was really interesting, but very emotional - these kids have nothing, and to see their faces light up when they got them was wonderful.

I have recently finished a purple beanie with rainbow stripes on it, and the purple and red basketweave hat is sewn up at last.I wasn't very happy as i had a problem where there was a join in the red stripes and it does show as a knot on the wrong side, but luckily the brim hides it.

Photo's to follow soon!

Evening all....

Tonight between twenty and thirty of us who help with the shoeboxes are meeting up for a social evening. We are all taking food and we'll all share it and stuff ourselves silly......... I'm really looking forward to chatting to the other knitters and sharing some patterns/ideas, etc....will report back!

The snowflake was a disaster, it's very tight and hard to get your needle into the stitches, and impossible to see i you have done a knit or purl stitches (i was working in a double rib pattern). When you try to undo a stitch, the stuff snaps! It is being passed on to someone else.....I had a ball of Stylecraft safari, so I got that out and worked with that instead - compared to snowflake it was a dream to work with - done in about two nights, lovely and soft too - photo's on the way...

barbie doll clothes...........

Well people, the basketweave purple & red hat is now complete, and awaiting sewing up (yawns).I will check the pattern for the recommended sewing up as I have been backstiching for the last two and a half weeks - wonder what it will say...

Next I will be making another hat in Snowflake. I'm not looking forward to this as it's not supposed to be an easy yarn to knit with, but I'm curious...

I had a go at doing Barbie doll clothes the other day.I haven't worked with 4-ply before and the stitches were minute, when i dropped some I had to frog it...grr...that happened to two garments twice in the same day. Back to knittingpatterncentral I go, as the pattern i had told me to use press fasteners - far too fiddly for me!

see you later folks!

Well folks, they're all still a bit big, my pics - but I'm getting there!

Current WIP - just started another basketweave hat - the same style as the blue one, but with main colour purple, with red stripes on the brim. I hate ribbing, it take ages, but it's worth it to keep the children's ears warm, they need it over in Eastern Europe where they are...

Happy knitting everyone!

Went home sick from work -3 guesses what I did?

Went home sick from work -3 guesses what I did?

After an hour in bed I collapsed on the sofa and not being one to be able to sit still for long, I got out my current WIP and finished it!Not bad as I only started it yesterday....

After that, I decided to try mittens again as I have learned new skills since my last attempt a year ago - success! Woohoo!

Wednesday 4 April 2007

Today I dropped in on a knitting group in Dawlish....One of the ladies sat next to me and showed me how to wind the yarn round my fingers and use my index finger to wrap the yarn round the needles. Not easy!My thumb still wants to go whizzing around with it, so I'm working on putting my other thumb on top of it while my finger does the work.
Next she showed me how to do backstitch. This will be great as my work tends to get loose when I change fom knit to purl. No more oversewing for me!

After the group finished I went for a walk down by the sea and found a beautiful spot overlooking the beach, with the birds fluttering in and out of the trees. It was so warm I was able to knit there for half an hour or more!

Welcome!

Hi all and welcome to my blog!

I am an improving knitter who still has a lot to learn. At the moment all I have done is hats, scarves and gloves - though I did do a baby cardigan years ago.................

Next in line is a sleeveless top in cotton - wish me luck!
